Gang Gang Dance at The Creators Project

GANG GANG DANCE Their set was spectacular, and here is a little taste. Also, let's not ignore lead singer/percussionist of the group, Lizzie Bougatsos, out of this world personal style time and time again. We are huge fans of her and the entire band. ** thanks Creators Project** Gang Gang Dance are playing again this summer at Governors Island with Grizzly Bear .. wow what a hot ticket.

Last Friday we were lucky enough to have seen White Hinterland, a band from Portland, play at Glasslands in Brooklyn. I highly highly recommend you try and catch them next time they pass through your town. Their set was lovely and the sound was so straight forward and clean, however my camera made it seem otherwise. So enjoy this video because the song truly and honestly makes me smile and my insides melt, and ignore the horrible humming bass sound because that was not present at the show. Also, people were constantly standing in front of me, and I thought that it would be much more fitting to have random nature shots from my collection of footage rather then dark images of people heads. oOoOO - roses

This is a scene in the Japanese cult horror film, Hausu that we saw a while back. We already wrote about it, so im not going to be redundant. But the entire time i kept thinking this one scene would make a really beautiful and epic music video. and so i did a pretty amateur version of that with the oOoOO song hearts, which rules

Watch the video at the bottom and make sure to come check out a special special girl selling special things at the brooklyn flea!!!! one hanson place! dont be a square...

Ryan Trecartin - video artist / freak of nature

Though this may not be exclusively music related...Video Artist, Ryan Trecartin is a total freak who I've been into for a while. I first saw his work at the Whitney Biennial in NYC a couple of years back and have been following his art ever since. He makes insane video art worthy of your attention. If you have 45 minutes to kill and looking to be totally weirded out...check this. It is bizarre, confusing, hysterical, and totally epic.

On a side note, we're both huge Julee Cruise/Twin Peaks superfans, so here are some quintessential Julee/Twin Peaks moments . Expect to see a good amount of her on our new June mix.

I want you rockin’ back inside my heart from Stewf on Vimeo.

Not a lot of new stuff lately as my computer has been recuperating at the Mac store after a near explosive encounter with my hard drive (using my roommates PC is proving to be a total bummer), and my co-blogger has fled to the suburbs for a long weekend. But we'll be back and better than ever veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy soon!

Tonsstarsbandht

I've known about these dudes for a while, but I'm revisiting my love for them. The names pretty tricky, but the music is simple, grungy, lo-fi dreaminess. Have not seen them live yet, but they're playing a couple of shows in Brooklyn. Theyre gonna be playing some show
s with Makeout Videotape who are also worth checking out - they have some cool videos posted on their myspace. Here are some solid tracks of theirs.

Since it's unbearably hot outside (seriously NY weather, are you trying to kill us?) I've trapped myself indoors, in front of the AC watching Lie to Me and countless music videos.

LOVING this super eerie, super NSFW Mater Suspiria Vision Video, they always have the craaa
aaaziest videos, those dudes brains are on a whole other level.

And then there's this adorable little vid by Lonely Galaxy that just makes me happy!

TGIF!!!!!!! We might go see Light Asylum tonight in Brooklyn. Glasslands will no doubt be 185 degrees inside, but a good show is worth it, right? right....?

Old music that is new to me

a while ago, when at this bar Zebulon, the Dj's started to play Khaled, an Algerian musician from the 70's. I was very attracted to this sound, so I did a little digging around and found out that Khaled's style of music is called Rai, a form of folk music that originated from Shepherds living in Algeria around the 1930's. You can definitely hear how this Rai was influenced by music coming from Spain and France at the time (which is a given because Algeria was so close to those countries). Here are two of my favorite songs that represent Rai (which translates to Opinion in english)
